Name:Gumi Reloaded: An AU RK Writing Community
Membership:Moderated
Posting Access:All Members
Gumi Reloaded is a community of writers who write adventures in an alternate universe for the characters that appear in the Rurouni Kenshin manga, OVA, live action films and anime through the Kyoto arc. Most of the stories are a collaborative effort. Many of the characters featured in these adventures keep cannon aspects of their manga and anime counterparts. Additionally, historical characters (such as members of the Shinsengumi) who may not actively appear in the RK universe are welcome to join our community.

If you visit the story called ‘Character Profile’, you will find bios for the RK characters as they are written in this universe.

All standard disclaimers apply to all written offerings listed on this site. We are here for *fun* not profit.

Gumi Reloaded

The year is 2060. The seas are high, the skies are polluted and the world is dealing with severe economic and societal upheaval. After barely surviving the impact of a prolonged civil war, the Japanese Megalopolis of New Meiji has become known as the most dangerous place on earth. With massive crime syndicates on one side and corrupt government officials on the other, the city is a sharp knife’s edge away from tumbling into chaos. Adding to all this uncertainty, new drugs have entered the city, some being created by shadowy government agencies and others coming from various crime syndicates. Regardless of the source, the drugs, called serums on the street, may grant the user physical strength and power beyond any before—but also may transform them into monsters.

Will you be a member of the New Meiji Metropolitan Police, valiant but struggling, determined to keep the peace? The lackey of one of the crime lords? An innocent victim trying to stay out of the way? Or something else entirely?

The fate of the city rests in your hands.

Welcome to New Meiji...

IMPORTANT: In this writing community, issues of substance abuse, addiction and recovery are discussed. As writers, and members of a larger community, we acknowledge that addiction, chemical dependency and recovery are anything but a game. As such, we do our best to address these issues in a responsible manner through our writing. Addiction is a disease, one that is difficult to treat and is NOT due to a person lacking character, willpower or goodness. Recovery isn't easy either and we have profound respect and love for individuals in need of treatment, currently in treatment and those on the long road to sobriety. We also acknowledge the critical role that medical professionals, families and friends have in the long-term recovery of someone suffering from chemical dependency. If you, or a loved one is struggling with chemical dependency, we encourage you to seek out assistance from groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and other such organizations and medical professionals. If you have a loved one who is struggling with chemical dependency, there is hope and help through support organizations like Al-Anon. Yours Truly, the writers and readers of the Gumi_Reloaded RPG.

WRITING COMMUNITY GUIDELINES:

1. You are now entering the GUMI RELOADED Zone. In this writing community we limit drama to the well written stories we create together. We are adults and will treat each other with respect.

2. Writers must be 18 or older.

3. Because we are a community, it is essential for writers to engage in due diligence and spent time reading existing stories and get to know the plots and ideas that are currently being worked on. The more a new community member explores what has already been written, the easier it will be for them to enter the New Meiji universe and maintain the expected quality of writing and keep within creative mandates.

4. Writers may apply for a second character after they have successfully written for their first character for at least three “days” (a time interval where stories occur within one fictional 24-hour period) Each writer is allowed one major character and one minor character. What constitutes a major or minor character will be determined by the Mods.

5. Posting keeps the writing moving and shows you are still interested in contributing to the community. Writers should try to post their character(s) a minimum of twice a week, three or more times is encouraged. The two posts can be in any thread, whether it was started by you or someone else, and using any of your characters.

6. Writers should contact each other regarding questions or concerns about postings, plots, and participation in threads. Be aware that something that impacts your character may have been totally unintentional. Writers may not direct each other’s characters without permission. The creator of a thread ultimately has final say about content and plotlines. Writers should resolve any questions between them through transparent communication, creative thinking and flexibility. In the event of a dispute that cannot be amiably resolved by the writers, community moderators will make a binding decision on how to best proceed.

7. All of a thread post except for the heading should be placed behind a cut to keep the writing community board looking neat and attractive. The heading lists the date, time, place, characters and the rating of M if the thread contains sexual content or mature subject matter. The heading information should be visible to all, and not part of the text placed in the cut.

8. Writers should request permission to join a thread unless it is labeled Open to ALL. When in doubt, ask rather than assume.

9. Relationships between characters are totally up to their writers. Canon couples are respected but not mandated. Other relationships are allowed, but need to respect community content guidelines and ensure that no content exceeds that of a mature rating. NC-17 (explicit sexual content or graphic, gratuitous) is not permitted.

10. When you are accepted as a community writer, please friend the other character's user journals. Also, please post your application in your character’s user journal. You can do this with the privacy setting of ‘friends only’ that way other community writers can see it, but the general public can’t. On your character’s profile page, please write a brief description of who they are, their occupation, family status, etc.

11. When your character enters a thread, please post a brief notice about the thread and a link to it in the user journal for your character. For example, say Kenshin and Hiko have a thread at Hikoburg. In Hiko's thread log, give the real time date the thread started. Write: “Hiko & Kenshin at Hikoburg”, link (linking to the thread in Gumi Reloaded). This should help writers and readers keep track of what all the characters are doing and help ease any new writers into the community more quickly.

12. Entries are to be written in the third person. You may write individual character journals but all official timeline continuity writing must be in done in Gumi Reloaded, though chat logging is allowed. Writers are encouraged to write character journals and use them for fun and games in addition to posting to the threads in which the characters participate in the official community continuity timeline.

13. We ask that all writers post a history/bio for their character in the character's DW journal. This can be done on either the main page or the profile page of the character's journal. Location is up to the writer. Please include the 'for fun' questions from your application in this bio/history.

14. A character may send an email or text message to another character without consulting the writer of the character who is receiving the message. This rule does not apply to posting a thread. The writers of all characters, who will appear in a thread, need to agree to participate in the thread.

15. While this writing community addresses mature subject matter, any written content must meet community content guidelines. Stories containing mature subject matter (sexual content, violence, mature themes, etc.) must be posted in with the appropriate rating label of ‘M’ indicating mature content. Explicit sexual content or gratuitous gore / violence (sometimes referred to as NC-17 or “X” rated material) is NOT permitted in this community. In the event that you create content that contains mature subject matter, in order for the MODS to post your thread to fanfiction.net or other writing community sites, you MUST adjust the content to meet the posting requirements. Failure to do this will result in your story not being posted. Community moderators have sole discretion whether or community writing will be cross-posted.

16. As needed the Mods will set up a group chat. While we will try to make this chat easy for all to attend, we ask that you try to make it for at least a few minutes. If you can't be there, the Mods will try to set up an individual chat with you just to touch bases. In these chats we discuss plot ideas, rules and writer suggestions. A transcript of the chat will be available via our Facebook group chat or via email.

17. If you have a question, comment, concern, or anything at all, please contact the Mods. We will be glad to help you with whatever you might need. Response time will vary, of course, but we will try to get back to you in a day or so. All of us will receive the email you send. You can also find some of us on Facebook Messenger.
Timing: A new day will dawn at Gumi Reloaded whenever there is community consensus to move the official continuity timeline forward. Generally speaking, this will occur every 2 weeks. Writers may continue a thread which has already started for as long as it takes to finish the thread. No going back in time with a new thread after the day changes, but you can continue with previously posted threads that are not finished. This will allow writers to participate in threads for more than one day at a time. Writer co-ordination is urged to help this run smoothly.
As a courtesy to our readers, we also cross-post on sites like fanfiction.net. Please make sure that if you cross-post that you give credit to your co-writers and the community if your story has any other participating characters. Failure to do so may result in the immediate revocation of your community access (and bad writing karma).
